Smishing

Cyber Security Information Article

Short for SMS Phishing, smishing is a variant of phishing email scams that instead utilizes Short Message Service (SMS) systems to send bogus text messages. Also written as SMiShing, SMS phishing made recent headlines when a vulnerability in the iPhone’s SMS text messaging system was discovered that made smishing on the mobile device possible.

Smishing scams frequently seek to direct the text message recipient to visit a website or call a phone number, at which point the person being scammed is enticed to provide sensitive information such as credit card details or passwords. Smishing websites are also known to attempt to infect the person’s computer with malware.

Change in Branch Hours

We want to inform you that we are making some changes to our branch office hours. These changes will go into effect on January 1, 2024. Our primary reason for changing our hours is to allow our employees to have a better work-life balance. Treasurer's Checks

A Treasurer’s check is drawn on the bank’s own funds and signed by a bank employee. These checks are treated as guaranteed funds because the bank, rather than the purchaser, is responsible for paying the amount. They are commonly required for real estate and brokerage transactions. There is a small fee for these checks and they are only issued to bank customers.

Wire Transfers

Wire transfers help move money electronically from one person to another, domestically and internationally. This is an effective, safe way to transfer funds between banks. For a small fee, our customers can quickly send payments to others. The cutoff time is 1PM for International wires and 2PM for Domestic wires each business day.

Safe Deposit Box

A safe deposit box is located inside a bank vault and is used to store valuables. A financial institution rents out safe deposit boxes, and they can be accessed with keys. For a small annual fee you can safely store your important papers, etc. You can access your box during the bank’s normal operating hours.

Notary Services

In the United States, a Notary Public is a person appointed by a state government and whose primary role is to serve the public as an impartial witness when important documents are signed. This service is available at each office of Woodlands Bank and is only available to bank customers.
